More Info: Bodegas HIKA is nestled in Getariako Txakolina, the easternmost wine region of the Basque Country. Their 7 hectares of vineyards lie at the foothills of the Hernio Mountains, just inland from the Atlantic coast and surrounded by lush oak and pine forests.
With a commitment to minimal intervention, Bodegas HIKA lets the land speak for itself. All wines are fermented using only indigenous yeasts, allowing the unique minerality of their txakoli wines to shine through while maintaining a light environmental footprint. The vineyards are farmed organically; no pesticides, only natural fertilisers, and biodiversity is encouraged with sheep roaming freely among the vines.
In the winery, sustainability goes a step further: HIKA uses a carbon capture system to collect CO₂ from fermentation, which is then repurposed throughout other stages of production. This innovative approach significantly reduces the winery’s overall emissions, aligning their methods with their philosophy of environmental care and terroir-driven winemaking.
